Compare proposals on evidence
Compare investment migration agents for a family application. Lesson 1, 18 min.
Shortlist two or three firms that passed every check in the Practitioner course. Then compare them on evidence, not on marketing.
Send each firm the same questions
- How many applications has the firm filed for this programme in a period that you name?
- Who works on your file? Is a lawyer on the team?
- How does the firm deal with complex source-of-funds questions?
- How often will the firm give you updates, and how?
- What support does the firm give after a decision, for example renewals or adding a family member?
Ask for the answers in writing.
Tell claims from evidence
An approval rate, a case count or a client story is a claim until you see evidence. Ask what a figure counts and for which period. A reference that you call yourself is stronger than a quote on a website.
Ask about conflicts of interest
A firm can receive referral fees from a property developer, a fund or another party. Ask the firm to disclose in writing each payment that it receives from a party in your investment. A firm that sells you an investment and also advises you on it has two interests.
Compare in one table
Use the same columns for each firm: legal name, number, programme, role, quoted fees by line, team, references and open questions. Leave an unknown cell empty and ask. Do not fill a gap with a guess.
